Science denial is a widespread phenomenon, not least regarding climate issues. Different groups call into question the role research and knowledge have in society and who can be considered as experts.

The Sustainability Forum and the Agenda 2030 Graduate School invite you to two events about climate change denial and the importance of science in society’s decision-making. The events are organised in cooperation with Mikael Karlsson and the Climate Leadership Unit at Uppsala University.

Dialogue forum for researchers

After a short lecture by Mikael Karlsson and Daniel Lindvall of Uppsala University there will be an open discussion on contempt for science with exercises and strategies for relating to this. The event is held in English.

Time and place: 10:00-12:00, 30 January, Hörsalen, Pufendorf Institute, Lund
Target group: The dialogue forum is open to all researchers at Lund University, but is primarily aimed at doctoral students and postdocs.
Registration: Dialogue Forum on Science Denial | Sustainability Forum (lu.se)

Knowledge and climate: a discussion about climate change denial

The evening will begin with a lecture by Mikael Karlsson, senior lecturer in climate leadership and associate professor of environmental science at Uppsala University. Mikael’s research focuses on, among other things, climate change denial and he has long experience of Swedish climate policy both as a researcher and an expert in Government inquiries. The talk will be followed by a panel discussion with regional politicians and researchers from Lund University, which will cover how science denial is expressed at a local level and the consequences of this for society. The event is held in Swedish.

Time and place: 18:00-19:30, 30 January, Stadshallen, Lund
Target group: General public, politicians, researchers, students
Registration: Knowledge and climate: a discussion about science denial | Lund University
