QR code login introduced to facilitate international users

Close up of man using mobile smart phone.

The interface when you log in to the IT services that require strong authentication is changing. All users will see a partially altered login flow. This will better support both international Freja users and logins on mobile phones.
The change will be implemented shortly.

Please note: If you are already using strong authentication and an authentication app such as Google Authenticator, you can continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

What will change?

  • As before, you enter your username and password when you log in to IT services that require strong authentication.
  • The new part is that you will then be shown a QR code, if you log in via a computer. On a mobile phone, a button will appear: "Start Freja on this device".

Why is the change being made?

  • The change is necessary for technical reasons, in order to support those who use the international version of Freja.
  • The revised flow provides a better user experience on mobile phones.
  • It also gives the University additional protection against fraud attempts.

Support for international users of Freja

Improved support for employees without a Swedish personal identity or coordination number will be launched in the autumn.

Employees without a Swedish personal identity or coordination number will then be able to configure Freja using a passport and then configuring an employee eID in the account management portal Passport – passport.lu.se.

For employees who have a Swedish personal identity number, initial configuration in the Freja app is in two steps:

  1. Create a personalised e-ID and scan your passport in Freja to obtain Freja. Freja will then review the application. You will soon thereafter receive an email confirming that the information from your passport has been verified and your personalised e-ID is ready to use.
  2. Users with a Swedish personal identity number complete the step of creating an employee eID using the flow in the Passport account management portal.

A passport that includes biometric data is required. Biometric information in a passport is personal and physical characteristics, such as facial image and fingerprints used for identification. The biometric information is stored digitally in the passport chip to increase security and prevent identity fraud.

Please note: If you are already using strong authentication and an authentication app such as Google Authenticator, you can continue to do so.
