The University Square is now set to be developed

Extensive development work is already in progress on several of the buildings in the University Square. The King’s House will soon be ready for occupancy and project planning for the forthcoming renovation of the Main University Building is in full swing.

The University is also conducting a site development project for the nearby small park, Petriplatsen, in order to highlight the unique value of the place.

In parallel with these ongoing projects, we want to look beyond the individual properties and take a holistic approach to the University’s historical, central square. A project with the same steering group as for the Main University Building has been set up with the aim to produce an action plan for the University Square.

I think that being the chair of the steering group for the Main University Building, Petriplatsen and University Square is among the most enjoyable of my tasks. My background as an urban geographer makes it even more satisfying to be involved in developing such essential parts of the University and the city of Lund.

The vision is for the University Square to be developed into a more inviting, vibrant and accessible place while, of course, preserving the historical values. A number of workshops will be held in the autumn with various internal and external actors in order to gather views and ideas on how the square could be developed.
