What makes the Pufendorf IAS unique?
During the last 16 years, the institute has welcomed hundreds of interdisciplinary research groups. Experience shows that the most innovative research questions often emerge in the “in-betweens”; the places in which knowledge areas meet. The Pufendorf Institute offers time and space to develop these issues in an environment conducive to learning and collaboration.
Call for applications: Theme and Advanced Study Groups
The Pufendorf Institute offers two forms of research groups: Themes and Advanced Study Groups (ASG).
Theme
A Theme should be innovative. It will be formed around a scientific problem that has not previously been explored. The Theme is focused on a scientific problem that requires collaboration between several disciplines. The goal is to lay the foundation for future research. Participants receive a salary from the institute corresponding to 20% of full-time for nine months.
Start: Autumn 2026., apply before: December 9, 2025
Advanced Study Groups (ASG)
An ASG offers researchers the opportunity to exchange ideas and perspectives on a research problem with development potential. The aim is to deepen knowledge and to pave the way for future research.
The application deadline for ASG starting in February 2026 is November 10, 2025.
The deadline for applications for ASG starting in September 2026 is 10 May 2026.
