The QS subject ranking is based on information that QS collects in different ways and does not include information that LU reports. The parameters included in the subject ranking are: Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Citations, H-index and, for some subjects, International Research Network (IRN).
QS ranks five overall subject areas and 55 narrower subjects (grouped within the overall subjects) – music is a new subject area, (unfortunately LU is not included in this ranking).
What we can ascertain from this year’s rankings (previous years’ ranking in brackets):
- LU is ranked in 39 (40) of the narrower subjects and the 5 overall subjects
- LU’s number of subjects in the top 50 has fallen to 2 (3 last year).
- LU’s number of subjects in the top 100 has fallen to 18 (19 last year).
- LU’s best subjects are Environmental Sciences rated at number 28 (36) and Geography 29 (25)
- LU has dropped out of the top 100 in the 5 overall subjects – Life Science & Medicine has the best rating at number 103 (89)
- LU’s rating has fallen in 4 of 5 overall subjects. Only Arts & Humanities has improved its rating, rising to number 124 (138)
