Why do we need plain language?
Writing in plain language is important – it is required by law and increases confidence in the University. In addition, it enhances the students’ work environment. The Language Act (2009:600) requires that language in the public sector is cultivated, simple and comprehensible. Therefore, our texts must have a clear purpose, be easy to understand and be adapted for the target group.
Life as a student involves a lot of administration and students may need help to deal with everything from IT and digital tools to study technique and mental health.
How the project works
The project “Plain language: accessible digital texts” is being conducted by the Unit for Educational Services and runs until autumn 2026. The aim is to improve the university-wide digital texts provided for students. A project manager is working with a language consultant in order to make texts more easily accessible. The project is financed with funds for gender equality and equal opportunities.
