New collaboration agreement with UC Berkeley provides new opportunities

UC Berkeley clock tower.

Today, we are signing a university-wide collaboration agreement with UC Berkeley. This opens the door to new collaboration opportunities for the entire University.

From 11 to 13 October, University management will host a unique visit from UC Berkeley. Among the guests are representatives for research, education, international issues, innovation and entrepreneurship. The aim of the visit is to further develop the long partnership that exists between LU and UC Berkeley, and to identify new opportunities for collaboration.

A few focus areas for the visit are:

  • Global responsible engagement and academic leadership
  • Innovation, entrepreneurship and research infrastructures
  • Sustainability and green transition

Besides meetings with University management, the visitors will meet with representatives from various parts of the university and will visit sites including DARKLab, MAX IV and LINXS. The deans of the faculties will meet the delegation in conjunction with the Vice-Chancellor’s Management Council meeting.

The good prospects for further collaboration between LU and Berkeley are clear, not least in the breadth of subjects within our research collaborations. There is also a successful university-wide mobility agreement within the framework of the University of California Systems. At management level, previous exchange of experience and networking has taken place through the CALIE Project (Sweden-USA Project for Collaboration, Academic Leadership and Innovation in Higher Education).

The new collaboration agreement with UC Berkeley is a clear example of Lund University’s global engagement and a concrete result of 2023’s roadmap for North America through the work on Global Dynamic Engagement – GDE.
