Three winners in the climate-friendly commuting competition

a big audience in front of a scene.
Many people come to the party as a finalization of the competition.

During the month of May, staff from the University took part in a competition along with 18 other organisations in CoAction Lund to commute as sustainably as possible. By walking, cycling or using public transport to commute, over 1,000 participants have reduced their climate impact in a joint effort.

Today, around 60 per cent of all the employees within CoAction Lund travel sustainably to and from work. However, to achieve joint climate goals, more employees need to leave their car at home and instead choose to walk, cycle or take public transport. In addition, several major roadworks around Lund that started in the spring of 2025 meant traffic flows disruptions.

The organisations therefore chose to challenge each other in a sustainable commuting competition with the aim of showing that sustainable commuting habits are possible – and make a difference. By the end of the five-week competition, 19 per cent of the participants had increased their sustainable travel. Looking in more detail at the target groups that had low sustainable commuting before the competition (max. 2 days per week), 70 per cent had increased their sustainable commuting during the competition.

A total of 19 organisations took part in the competition that had over 1,000 participants. The competition concluded with a CoAction party in Stadsparken, where the competition winners were presented. Prizes were awarded both to the organisations that commuted most sustainably, and to individual staff members.
