Jonas Midlöv has assumed the post of chief security officer for the entire University on 12 May. He comes from the Swedish Police Authority, where he has many years of experience in security-related work.

Jonas Midlöv has a background with the police and has spent the last ten years working in the Swedish Police Authority’s regional investigative unit. He has held a variety of specialist and managerial roles at regional, national and international level.

Solid experience of external engagement and security

Jonas has extensive experience of working with other public authorities, private stakeholders and international partners. He has led several large-scale projects and assignments, with a focus on change and development work.

“After 15 years with the Swedish Police Authority, it is a big, but also exciting, step to move to a new public authority. Lund University is a large workplace that includes many different organisations. One challenge will be to familiarise myself with all the organisations and, in collaboration with others, clarify which security aspects are important for each specific organisation. Security measures work best when we work as a collective, with everyone understanding and making contributions,” says Jonas Midlöv, the new chief security officer for the whole University.

His previous work at a strategic and operational level has included building up the Swedish Police Authority South Region's coordinating work against terrorism and violent extremism, based on the Government's strategy. The work is primarily a response to the needs of the organisation and society, based on external analyses and intelligence work.

Expertise in threats, cyberattacks and AI

Jonas also has extensive experience of working in digital environments, such as cyberattacks, recruitment and online radicalisation.

In addition, he has worked on issues related to foreign influence operations, organised crime and strategies to counter violent extremism and terrorism.

Jonas Midlöv will soon be familiarising himself with the University's operations, day-to-day management and the various areas of security that concern the University.

“Maintaining a close dialogue with management is important, so that Jonas can work with them to set priorities. A security policy will be adopted by the University Board in October, followed by guidelines for security management,” says Veronica Gummesson, head of division at LU Estates, which is home to the Security and Environment Office.
