Fourteen points. That is the length of the list of qualifications and abilities sought when Lund University searches for a new Vice-Chancellor. The fact that the person specification has now been finalised means that the recruitment process is in full swing.
“Applications and nominations can be submitted between 17 December and 1 February 2026,” says Ingrid Petersson, chair of the University Board and chair of the Recruitment Committee.
Formally, anyone can nominate a Vice-Chancellor for Lund University. However, it is most common for employees and students at the University to submit suggestions.
“The most important thing is that the person suggesting a name has ensured that the nominee is willing to stand for election,” says Ingrid Petersson.
Focus on academic freedom
The person specification was approved at the University Board meeting on 17 December and was preceded by a series of discussions about what profile the Vice-Chancellor of Lund University should have. The ability to safeguard academic freedom and develop diversity are some of the aspects that are specifically mentioned.
“We have had a number of meetings in the Recruitment Committee where we discussed the qualifications the candidate is required to have and other qualifications that are desirable. The drafts we have produced have been communicated to the Electoral College and the University Board. In the Recruitment Committee, we have then tried to balance the different views in an overall specification that we can all support,” says Ingrid Petersson.
