The Sustainable Development Goal number 8, ‘Decent work and economic growth’, is based on the idea that decent employment opportunities create fair globalization and reduce poverty. But the goal is often seen as conflicting with other goals. How can economic growth be ensured while also ensuring a sustainable planet?

Lund University (LU) is one of the top-ranking academic institutions in the world when it comes publications and citations related to SDG 8. Research includes topics such as (but not limited to) different economic growth models, labor rights, the effect of structural labor changes over time and circular economy.

Time and place: 12 September 2025 09:30-12:00Workshop, Forum Medicum, room Utblicken, Sölvegatan 19, Lund.

To find solutions to complex challenges, multiple disciplines are needed. Join us and get inspired by our presenters who will talk about different aspects of the goal, get a quick introduction on how you can use the LU research portal to find new people and articles and through group discussions collectively discuss what will be the future development of decent work and economic growth. Inspirational speakers are Carl Dalhammar (associate professor at International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics), Ellen Hillbom (professor at the department of Economic History), Max Koch (professor at the department of Sociology) and Kerstin Nilsson (professor at the division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine).
