This year’s four new Themes at the Pufendorf Institute have now been chosen. In total, the Institute received eighteen Theme applications in December 2022, of which eight were sent to external experts.

In March, the Board selected four proposals that were invited to form Themes at the Institute. The four newly adopted Themes will start at the Institute in September 2023.

Autumn Themes at the Pufendorf Institute:

  • Existential Threat/Ständigt existentiellt hot - how can we understand and face existential threats
  • Roadmap of Biomaterials 4.0/Färdplan för biomaterial 4.0 - challenges and potential solutions to how biobased materials can be developed with the help of AI
  • Coastal Perspectives/Kustperspektiv - measures to protect against coastal erosion and flooding as sea levels rise
  • Sound of Democracy - how sound in daily environment is linked to structures for gender equality, justice and inclusion.

The Pufendorf Institute brings together researchers from across the university to work together for a year to develop new areas of research in Themes. The Institute encourages research ideas in their early stages, that can form the basis for future research.

“I am looking forward to following the development of these new theme groups. The Themes highlight current issues on important challenges and that require collaboration and new insights. I am particularly happy to be able to welcome four new groups to the Institute, and that researchers are joining us from all the faculties,” says Stacey Ristinmaa Sörensen, director of the Pufendorf Institute.
