Description

Our research is focused on epilepsy and the pathophysiological changes that may occur in the brain before and after epileptic seizures. About 0,7 % of the community has epilepsy and more than 30 % are resistant to any known medical therapy. We have a particular interest in the immune reaction in the brain and how it can be modulated in epilepsy. Recently, we were the first to describe an immune reaction in the eyes of rodents with temporal lobe epilepsy, the most common form of epilepsy. We also investigate the endogenous capacity of the brain to repair it self with neural stem cells, how they are incorporated into the neuronal network, and how they may interact with the immune system. The goal is to find new therapeutic targets and biomarkers of epilepsy. We are engaged in both experimental and clinical studies on epilepsy.
