North America

The USA and Canada are two important partner countries for Lund University in terms of research, education and student exchange. This is reflected, among other things, in several delegation trips and management visits to universities in the US. Currently, Lund University has student exchange agreements with 29 US universities, ten of which are university-wide and 21 Canadian universities, ten of which are university-wide.

Action plan

In 2019, Lund University will draft a plan of action regarding the collaboration with North America describing how the university works with marketing making LU visible in the USA and Canada.

Special Activities

CALIE – Sweden-USA Project for Collaboration, Academic Leadership & Innovation in Higher Education

The need for universities to respond to pressing societal challenges and so-called ‘wicked problems’ is clear. Rapidly changing societies, economies and labour markets put increasing demands on individuals to continuously develop their skills and knowledge.

In order to strengthen the potential for higher education and research to respond to long-term challenges, the university leadership of four Swedish universities—Lund University, University of Gothenburg, Stockholm University and Uppsala University—have joined together to explore the topics of academic leadership and renewal of education in the collaborative project CALIE: the Sweden-USA Project for Collaboration, Academic Leadership and Innovation in Higher Education.

Through joint workshops and seminars with Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley and University of Washington, they will share experience, best practices and strategies in order to inspire change in the participating institutions and to develop a platform for further academic collaboration.

The primary target group is university leadership. Through joint workshops and open seminars, the participants will have the opportunity to focus on long-term challenges facing higher education.
