ACCESS – Academic Collaboration Chile Sweden
Lund University, together with Uppsala University, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad de Chile, has created a platform aimed at increasing cooperation in higher education between Sweden and Chile. Through the ACCESS platform, a possibility is given to identify and collectively discuss solutions on common challenges for both Chile and Sweden.
Every year, a bilateral research Forum is held (every 18 months in Sweden and every 18 months in Chile) where a broad spectrum of societal challenges is discussed in workshops. The goal is to facilitate a creative dialogue between researchers from both countries.
Until now, researchers from all faculties of Lund University have been engaged and it has resulted in new collaborations and mobility between Lund and Chilean higher education institutions. The target group is researchers who are interested in initiating new collaborations or strengthen ongoing actions with Chile. Today, ACCESS is a consortium of 15 universities in both Chile and Sweden.

FAPESP – São Paulo Research Foundation
Since 2015, Lund University has been involved in a collaboration with FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation). The aim is to strengthen the research cooperation between LU and researchers in the Brazilian state of São Paulo.
The cooperation with FAPESP means that LU annually announces seed funding for collaboration. The application must be made jointly with a counterparty in the state of São Paulo. The application is submitted to both FAPESP and LU, after which a joint review is made. Approved projects are awarded about SEK 100,000, half from LU and the other half from FAPESP. These funds are intended for travel and meetings in order to prepare further collaborations such as co-publications and research projects. Researchers at Lund University and researchers who are affiliated with HEIs or research institutes in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, can participate in the projects.
At Lund University, there is a Latin America group whose task is to promote and coordinate LU’s collaborations with organisations and higher education institutions in Latin America. The group meets four times a year, and offers support for university-wide initiatives by providing guidance to the University management in issues concerning strategic investments in the region.
The group is composed of the following members:
- Stacey Sörensen – chair
- Martin Tunér – Faculty of Engineering (LTH)
