Students, the logotype and the Lund University name

Lund University’s graphic profile applies to all activities which are organisationally part of the University, and is only to be used on documents produced on behalf of the University. Students are thereby not to use the profile, but they may use the University logotype. Here, you can read about the rules that apply to students’ use of the logotype and the University name in various contexts.

Students who wish to use the main logotype or a faculty logotype on a paper or a degree project must write the following, close to the logotype:

  • type of work (paper, degree project)
  • cycle
  • course
  • department/faculty etc.

Example: if the University logotype is placed on the front page of a paper, the above information must also be clearly written on the front page. The logo can also be used in accordance with these guidelines, if the essay will be posted in the LUP (Lund University Publications).

The logotype can also be used on other types of student work within a study programme, such as a survey or similar. In order to use the logotype the work must be

  • limited in time
  • conducted within a study programme
  • not pursued externally/publicly in any way after completion of the study programme

It is important always to write that the work has been produced by students and is part of a (specified) study programme.

Students competing on behalf of the University

Students competing on behalf of the University, in sporting and club contexts in which the public authority is represented, such as national or international tournaments, may use the Lund University logotype and name in that specific context. In that case, the Lund University logotype is only to be used in its entirety, in the approved versions. The logotype is never to be cropped or modified.

Always contact LU’s Corporate Communications by emailing grafiskprofil [at] kommunikation [dot] lu [dot] se before using the University’s logotype in this kind of context.

Student organisations and the Lund University name

Student organisations, associations and suchlike are generally never to use the entire University logotype nor any part of it in their profiling. Similarly, these organisations are not to use “Lund University” or “LU” as part of their own name. However, they may use Lund/Lund students/Lund academics and similar phrases.

Exception for students’ unions

Students’ unions are entitled to use “at Lund University” in their name, as it may be necessary to specify the university where the organisation operates. Moreover, the students’ unions have a specific remit to safeguard students’ interests and studies in relation to the University, and they participate as representatives in various University bodies.

Downloading logotypes

You can download the main Lund University logotype and faculty logotypes from the Image and Media Bank, under the Logotypes category.

Students who need to download the logotype use the student login; instructions are available on the Image and Media bank login page.

Go to the Image and Media Bank to download the logotype (login as non-employee and use the student username and password)

Templates

There are no University-wide templates for student degree projects. Some faculties and departments have produced their own templates for these kinds of work. Contact your nearest communications officer to find out what is available where you are.

Contact a Communications Officer

Students should always check with their supervisors/teaching staff to find out what advice and guidelines apply to their specific course or programme.
