Increased focus on academic freedom

Academic freedom is a fundamental prerequisite for our activities. It is also an area that engages many employees. We could be better at highlighting ongoing work but also at allowing more scope to discuss and draw attention to issues concerning academic freedom.

During the autumn, the Ethics Advisory Board was given a new remit and has been renamed the Council for Ethics and Academic Freedom. Senior lecturer Rebecca Selberg started with a talk on the theme of Trigger Warnings and then followed a panel discussion between Elin Bommenel (Faculty of Social Sciences), Stefan Lindgren (Faculty of Medicine) and Emma Svensson (LUS). Many thanks to everyone who participated!

The vice-chancellor has also entrusted senior lecturer Johan Östling with a special assignment over the coming year to facilitate and highlight discussions, debates and issues concerning academic freedom.
