Investigating protective security

Protective security refers to protecting information and activities of importance to Sweden’s security against espionage, sabotage, terrorist offences and certain other threats.

Pursuant to the Protective Security Act, those who conduct security-sensitive activities are to investigate and document the need for protective security, i.e. carry out a so-called protective security analysis – for information see the Swedish Security Service website. Due to this, a security consultant, commissioned by Security and Environment at LU Estates, will carry out an investigation to establish the extent to which our activities fall within the framework of the Protective Security Act. The investigation will be carried out in the autumn of 2020 and, as it is limited to protective security, will not be coordinated with other closely-related surveys and investigations that may be carried out in parallel.

The aim of the investigation is to identify whether protective security classified data is involved, what otherwise needs protective security (e.g. protection of information systems that process compilations of data of significance to Sweden’s security) and what is deemed not to need it. The investigation will continue regarding those units deemed to be subject to protective security legislation with an identification and assessment of the so-called protective value in close cooperation with the unit in question. The investigation will be based on interviews, review of documents as well as an inspection of physical security and a review of information security from a protective security perspective and will form the basis for continued management of protective security.
